With only a few more weeks to go to the end of 2012, the pressure is on to complete as much as possible before some of us break away for a rewarding holiday, whilst others continue to work hard and kick more goals.

One of these pressures is regarding your hiring for the new year and the best time to start looking. I know of clients who are actively hiring now to ensure they’re well prepared for the mid January start whilst others who are considering waiting until the new year to resume their hiring.

The challenge this creates is leaving sufficient time to hire the right team member from a thorough selection process, not desperation, whilst also ensuring you have access to a wide selection of candidates.

One question to ask yourself is how long would it take for you to have an established and productive team member ready to start?

The process for a successful hiring includes:
- Research & thorough fact finding for the role, ( 2 days)
- Creation of Ads and advertising, ( 3 days and ongoing )
- Screening (Pre-assessment) of all candidates, ( 7 days and ongoing )
- Shortlisting candidates and final interviews, ( 2 days and ongoing )
- Reference Checks, ( 1 day and ongoing )
- Employment offer and candidate starting, ( 2 – 30 days )

All of this can take anywhere from a week to 30 days from the initial start through to hiring the right person and the success and length of the process relies heavily on your process, speed and efficiency, as well as the position you’re hiring for.

When are candidates looking?
We’ve also found that there are high calibre candidates looking for their next project, challenge, or stable opportunity at this time of the year. For reasons including:

- End of contract or project,
- Well organised departure plans ready for fresh start in the new year.

Candidates looking include those who prefer to complete their employment in an ethical way that leaves their current company in a good situation and creates a smooth transition for the next person, whilst allowing them to start in a fresh new role with your company. These are the candidates you want to have access to before they take on other opportunities.

Productive candidates do not stay on the market for long, if at all. You need to have the system to identify these candidates amongst your list of resumes and screen IN the productive and fit to the role, and screen OUT those who do not fit. Performia has the system to help you with exactly this.

This makes it important for your recruitment division to always have your ‘feelers’ out, regardless of when ‘exactly’ you need the person to start, as you can work out the starting time with the right person, but do not compromise on quality as it’s better to have no one, than the wrong person.

Check out this great video at and see how Performia can help you screen IN the right, and screen OUT the wrong candidates.

If you are currently hiring or ready to start this process now, call Liam on 03 9001 0267 to discover our Christmas special and gift to you.

As always I value your feedback and look forward to sharing your success that will follow.

We all know that who is in your team makes all the difference to the rate of success or failure.

If this is the agreement, then how we screen who should be in and out becomes VERY important to the rate of success of our organisations.

But, it is not just knowing how to screen out the bad and the ugly (figuratively) but how we also screen in those that with traditional selection systems would not even get a chance to be properly screened.

Traditional methods of hiring fall into two categories –

1. Looking through resumes received from advertising a vacant position.
2. Headhunting people you have seen operating effectively, or who you believe have the skills and/or contacts you need.

Both can be very expensive ways of hiring and both have a high probability of ignoring the most productive people.

Performia is the perfect screening system as it captures all the productive candidates as part of its first screening. It screens IN and OUT, not just OUT.

Check this video and email to understand more, and by using our systems, you can easily reduce your wage cost in ratio to your profits.

At Performia we are helping more and more business owners and executives discover the key to effective hiring.

It feels very rewarding to empower people and give them confidence to decide with CERTAINTY, because of the Performia tools to know who should be hired, or avoided, and how the right person should be managed to help them achieve even greater production.

I have also come to realise that the biggest curse a person can have is uncertainty, the inability to decide. In a business this can lead to instability in a team, and even spread through the entire organisation.

It can start with the hiring process, and the decisions made, good or bad, stay with the organisation for the long term and directly impact the company’s results.

The Performia Candidate Evaluation Report is an accurate and vital way to determine the calibre of the candidate you’re going to engage, long before you hire them and invest your time, and money in wages.

Knowing the ratio of “Helium,” production potential, versus “Sand,” baggage that weighs own and lowers an individual’s performance potential, in your candidate will determine the return of investment you will receive, all within a few hours; a system where you can separate fact from guesswork.

It is the gateway to your organisations success and growth.

If you have not yet taken your free test drive to see for yourself how accurate and valuable this system can be for your organisation, then I invite you to try it NOW.

Here is the opportunity to stop using your organisation as a testing ground for new staff, and know that you are making the right choice for your organisations prosperity.

Would you buy an investment property blindfolded knowing only that it looks nice?

There are four factors to consider when hiring starting with the most important Production. Nothing else is really important if you cannot find any indication that your candidate can produce the results you expect.

Only if you can see a good sign of the above, you’ll be interested to know about Personality. Personality allows you to understand HOW a person achieves their results, and what could be holding them back from achieving more. There are some areas in a person’s personality that can make them more ‘high maintenance’ than others meaning they will need more time and attention from management. YOU need know what exactly these are to help your decision as well as managing the candidate to help them increase their production.

What motivates your candidate to produce results and ultimately join your company is going to be quite important as it will determine their stability in the future as well as help you understand if it is something you can accomodate. We have 2 types of Motivation; OUTFLOW oriented (preferred) vs INFLOW oriented. You can find out more about this in our short online course.

In jobs where training can be provided you can usually leave the knowledge checking for the last area to check. In other roles where cetain requirements are necessary such as a License for Pilots and training will take too long, it’s best to check for this first! Where possible if you can provide training, you will be able to widen your scope of applicants and even have a better chance than your competitors to get better quality applicants who are productive, fit to the role, and WILLING TO LEARN & CONTRIBUTE.

The Performia system takes care of Point 1 and 2, allowing you to only spend time with those who you KNOW, will give you a positive return on investment. So take the productive approach, and continue to know before you hire.
